Pokémon – Vullaby – Pitch Black ME05 – 049/084 – Base Common – Near Mint is a Darkness‑type non‑foil base card from the 2026 Mega Evolution Era Pitch Black expansion. Vullaby’s scavenger stance, bone‑carapace silhouette and neon‑shadow rim lighting match the corrupted‑energy aesthetic that defines ME05. As an early‑set Darkness‑type common, Vullaby helps establish the expansion’s predatory, survival‑theme visual identity. Its crisp outlines, deep purples and clean print clarity make it one of the most recognizable commons in the ME05 base lineup.
In tournament play, Vullaby functions as a flexible early‑game utility Pokémon. Its low‑cost attacks allow Darkness decks to chip damage, scout board development and maintain tempo while preparing mid‑range attackers. Vullaby’s retreat cost and attack sequencing make it a reliable opener for decks that evolve into Mandibuzz or pair with pressure‑based Darkness strategies. While not a heavy hitter, Vullaby’s role is to stabilize the early game, create incremental value and support transitions into stronger Darkness‑type threats.
The artwork for Vullaby 049/084 was illustrated by ME05 staff artist H. Kurobane, who leaned into the Pitch Black expansion’s corrupted‑energy narrative by emphasizing neon rim‑lighting and shadow‑warped terrain. The cracked canyon backdrop is tinted with purple distortion lines to reflect the spreading ME05 aura. Kurobane’s glowing accents and bone‑carapace highlights reinforce Vullaby’s scavenger identity, making the card feel grounded in the expansion’s darker worldbuilding. This stylistic direction fits perfectly with Pitch Black’s theme of Pokémon adapting to an environment altered by corrupted energy.
