Pokémon – Cranidos – Pitch Black ME05 – 044/084 – Base Uncommon – Near Mint is a Fighting‑type non‑foil base card from the 2026 Mega Evolution Era Pitch Black expansion. Cranidos’ head‑charge stance, neon‑blue fracture glow and corrupted‑energy shading give it a more savage, prehistoric look than its usual Fossil‑era depictions. The ME05 aesthetic pushes its rocky design into a sharper, high‑contrast style with warped impact lines and crisp outlines. As a mid‑set Fighting‑type Uncommon, Cranidos adds weight and intensity to the ME05 binder layout with strong print clarity and saturated shading.
In tournament play, Cranidos acts as an early‑to‑mid‑game pressure attacker for Fighting decks. Its attacks typically deliver solid chip damage or force opponents into defensive repositioning while players set up heavier Fossil or Fighting‑type threats. Cranidos’ retreat cost and attack sequencing make it a dependable evolution target for Rampardos lines or aggressive Fighting‑type strategies. While not a tank, Cranidos’ role is to create tempo swings, punish fragile setups and support transitions into stronger mid‑range attackers.
The artwork for Cranidos 044/084 was illustrated by ME05 staff artist H. Kurobane, who leaned into the corrupted‑energy narrative by emphasizing neon fracture distortion and warped rock textures. The shattered canyon backdrop is tinted with blue‑violet fracture lines to reflect the spreading ME05 aura. Kurobane used glowing rim highlights, impact‑burst motion effects and subtle environmental warping to reinforce Cranidos’ head‑charge identity. This stylistic direction fits perfectly with Pitch Black’s theme of Pokémon becoming altered by corrupted energy.
